Field Applications Scientist, Customer Support, Microscopy, Scientific Training, Workflow Optimisation

A remotely-based Field Applications Scientist opportunity, with a customer support focus, has emerged with an innovative life sciences instrumentation company at the forefront of super-resolution imaging technology. Could this be your chance to combine deep scientific expertise with a customer-facing role that genuinely shapes how researchers get the most from cutting-edge tools?

The Role

Working remotely, but with travel across the UK and Europe for installations accounting for approximately 25% of your time, The Field Applications Scientist will serve as the primary scientific resource for customers following instrument installation, guiding them through onboarding, training, and the ongoing use of advanced imaging workflows. Day-to-day, you will troubleshoot experimental challenges across sample preparation, image acquisition, and data analysis, working alongside service and product colleagues to resolve issues efficiently. You will also identify customers who may be struggling with adoption and put corrective plans in place, contributing directly to contract renewals and the long-term success of the customer base. Beyond direct support, you will develop training materials and knowledge resources that improve the scalability of the support function, and feed customer insights back to product and commercial teams to help shape future development.

The Company

This is a UK-based role with a growing life sciences technology business that develops advanced imaging instrumentation used by research organisations across biopharma, biotech, and academia. The company is in an exciting phase of commercial expansion and is known for its strong scientific culture and commitment to customer outcomes. You would be joining a collaborative, cross-functional team where scientific credibility and commercial awareness are equally valued.

What experience does the Field Applications Scientist need?

  • A PhD, MSc, or equivalent hands-on experience in Cell Biology, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related discipline, combined with practical expertise in advanced fluorescence microscopy or similar analytical technologies.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex experimental and application challenges, including sample preparation and data analysis, and to translate technical findings into clear, repeatable guidance for customers.
  • A track record in customer-facing roles such as field applications, scientific support, or core imaging facility work, with strong communication and training skills suited to both academic and industry audiences.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK and Europe for installations, with the ability to manage remote support and virtual engagement independently between visits.

Benefits

  • Fully remote and flexible working from anywhere in the UK
  • A bonus to 10% of basic salary
  • 28 days holiday + 4 wellbeing days
  • Private healthcare
  • 5% pension
  • Stock options
