Lab Technician, Laboratory Support

A Lab Technician opportunity has arisen with an innovative life sciences company based in Oxfordshire. This is a junior, hands-on position sitting at the heart of daily scientific operations, giving you the chance to be a vital link between research teams and the wider organisation. Ready to bring your practical skills to a company working on some genuinely exciting science?

The Role

The Lab Technician will be the operational backbone of two busy research laboratories, ensuring everything runs smoothly day to day so that scientific work can continue without interruption. You will take ownership of consumables stock monitoring levels, replenishing supplies, maintaining the storeroom, and processing orders and incoming deliveries in a timely fashion. Routine equipment upkeep, including deep cleaning and integrity checks, will also fall within your remit, alongside keeping accurate maintenance records.

A significant portion of the role involves daily general housekeeping across the site, including regular use of the autoclave for waste processing. You will interact with scientists across multiple research functions every day, acting as a trusted point of contact between the lab teams and the broader operations function. As the organisation grows, there is real scope for your responsibilities to develop alongside it.

The Company

This is a well-funded, growing R&D organisation operating within the agricultural technology sector. The company places genuine value on collaborative working, evidence-based thinking, and giving each member of staff the opportunity to grow and develop within their role.

What experience does the Lab Technician need?

  • A degree or NVQ Level 5 in a technical subject, or equivalent hands-on experience gained within a laboratory setting
  • Familiarity with H&S documentation such as risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and standard operating procedures, with any experience reviewing or managing such documentation a bonus
  • Previous experience working with storeroom or inventory management systems, ideally within a research environment; exposure to a commercial ERP system such as NetSuite would be advantageous
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and know when to escalate an issue
