Medical Acoustic Engineer

Back To Job Board

We’re looking for an experienced Medical Ultrasound Engineer / Medical Acoustic Engineer to join an incredible Oxford-based medical technology company

What will I be doing?

Working in a position with wide-ranging responsibilities, you will work across system prototyping, validation, testing, proof of concept work and component performance, whilst also contributing to the overall ultrasound platform hardware and software development. This work will include the planning and conducting of experiments, analysing the data and reporting on/documenting the outcomes.

About the company

Spun-out of an existing, successful scientific R&D firm over 5 years ago, you will be joining a talented and dedicated team as they continue to develop proof of principle technology into a fully functioning MHRA-approved product prototype. Using ultrasound technology, the company has developed a novel, minimally-invasive surgical procedure that has the potential to transform spinal surgery.

The ideal candidate will have…

  • Experience of medical ultrasound. Whilst medical imaging is sufficient, experience of medical therapeutic ultrasound (HIFU, histotripsy, lithotripsy) would be advantageous.
  • Whilst experience can have been gained through academia (An MSc or PhD in a relevant field such as acoustics or therapeutic medical ultrasound), industrial experience of commercial product development would be of real benefit.
  • Experience with ultrasonic measurements and calibration.
  • The team work extensively with Matlab, so experience in this area, or a willingness/ability to pick it up is required.
  • Experience of developing, validating, and documenting a medical device to ISO standards, especially ISO 13485 would be highly valued.
