Why a new job should be on your Christmas list and not your New Year’s Resolution

Christmas

When it comes to job hunting, you’re probably using lots of tools to make yourself stand out from the crowd, but you could be overlooking an important one – the timing of your application.

There is a common misconception that you would be better off postponing your job search until after Christmas as things are starting to get quieter now. If the companies we are working with are anything to go by, the exact opposite is true. They are looking for people who can join their teams before Christmas or, at a push, in the New Year. Given the length of recruitment processes and notice periods, that means they are looking NOW.

If everyone else believes the market is currently slow, that gives you a chance to get ahead of the competition. Less competition means more interviews for you. Waiting until January to start means you will be contending with a flood of other people who have decided to start 2015 with a new job.

So which would you rather be doing on January 2nd; trawling the job boards or enjoying your new job?

Whilst it’s a bit early to say “Happy Christmas everyone” it’s definitely the right time to say “Happy job hunting everyone!”. If you’re not sure how to start your job hunt, why not check out our twitter feed or LinkedIn page for lots of advice
